  • 27. Tunnel Ridge Road Dispersed Camping

Amongst the picturesque hardwood forest of Tunnel Ridge Road are several primitive camping areas. Each camping area has a parking lot and vault toilet. Visitors must park in designated lots. Roadside parking on Tunnel Ridge Road is not permitted. From the parking lot, follow the foot paths to suitable camping locations. When setting up tents, be sure they are at least 300 feet away from the road, parking lot, and official trails. Campers may collect down and dead wood for campfires, do not cut live trees. Please use existing fire rings, rather than making new ones. Make sure your campfire is cold to the touch before leaving, as many abandoned campfires have started wildfires. When not in use, food and other bear attractants must be stored in a hardtop vehicle or suspended in a tree 10 feet high and four feet away from the trunk. Kentucky law prohibits consumption of alcohol in public places.

When camping overnight, visitors must purchase and display a backcountry camping permit on their vehicle. Permits may be obtained at the Gladie Visitor Center or local vendors such as gas stations.

Tunnel Ridge Road can only be accessed from KY 15, as it does not intersect with KY 77.
